B1 ANCHOR B2 L-WING B3 R-WING B4 STRIKER R1 R2 R3 R4
In Possession
"Make the Field BIG" (The Diamond): Both wings (B2 & B3) sprint to touch the touchlines. Striker (B4) stretches deep. This empties the center circle, giving your ball carrier 5–10 yards to turn and two passing angles!
KICKOFF BLUEPRINT

Layback & Launch vs. Pincer Lock

Kickoffs decide early momentum. Never kick blindly into the opposing wall:

  • Offense (Layback & Launch): Striker B4 taps backwards to Anchor B1, then immediately sprints forward to peel behind defenders. Wings B2 & B3 sprint to touchlines. Anchor has 2 wide options and 1 deep runner!
  • Defense (The Pincer Lock): Striker B4 arches their approach run on the whistle to cut off the opponent's back-pass to center. Wings B2 & B3 step up to clamp passing lanes to the touchlines. Anchor B1 sweeps loose kicks.
SHAPE & SPACING

The 1-2-1 Diamond on Small Pitches

On a 20-yard wide pitch, clustering creates a 8-player swarm. Keep shape to own the game:

  • Wings Touch the Chalk (B2/B3): Hugging the sideline pulls defenders out of the center and opens a 10-yard central passing highway.
  • Anchor Depth (B1): Stays 8–10 yards behind the ball. The permanent negative reset valve — never let an attacker get behind B1!
  • Target Striker (B4): Pushes opponents toward their goal line, creating vertical depth.
CREATING SEPARATION

3 Laws of Separation in 2 Yards

How to create passing pockets without running out of bounds:

  • The V-Cut (Check & Peel): 2 hard steps toward defender to pin them, explosive outside foot plant, then burst back 3 steps into open space to receive cleanly.
  • Blindside Peeling ("No Free Eyes"): Stand on the defender's back shoulder. If they look at the ball, they lose you. When passer looks up, step into the passing lane.
  • Back-Foot Receiving: Open hips to 45° so you can see both goals. Receive across your body with the far foot to face forward in 1 touch.
2-TOUCH SPEED

The 1-2 Wall Pass & Anchor Switch

Ball speed beats foot speed every time on tight fields:

  • The 1-2 Wall Pass (Give & Go): Wing B2 passes firmly to Striker B4 and immediately sprints past defender R2. Striker cushions 1-touch return pass into B2's running stride.
  • The Anchor Reset: When trapped in the corner by 2 defenders, don't kick out of bounds! Pass back to Anchor B1, who switches the ball across to the open wing.
  • Two-Touch Rhythm: Touch 1 cushions into open space; Touch 2 delivers the pass before the swarm arrives.

DRILL 01 • KICKOFF ROUTINE

Kickoff Breakout & 3-Sec Attack

10 MIN
Grid Setup Center circle to small goal, 4 attackers vs 2 defenders
Technical Focus 1-tap layback, touchline breakout, blindside peel
  • How it works: On whistle, Striker B4 taps backwards to Anchor B1. Wings B2 & B3 sprint to touchlines. Striker peels into open space behind defenders.
  • Game Constraint: Attackers must connect 2 passes and release a shot within 5 seconds of the whistle!
  • Coach Callouts: "Lay it back!", "Touch the chalk!", "Go deep!"
DRILL 02 • QUICK PASSING

The 1-2 Wall Pass Gauntlet

12 MIN
Grid Setup 15x12 yard channel with 1 target wall player & 1 active defender
Technical Focus Pass & sprint, 1-touch return cushion, finish in stride
  • How it works: Wing passes firmly into Striker's feet and immediately accelerates past defender. Striker cushions a 1-touch return pass into the running channel.
  • Key Constraint: Striker is not allowed to turn or dribble — must play a 1-touch wall cushion into space!
  • Coach Cue: "Pass and SPRINT! Never admire your pass — become the next runner!"
DRILL 03 • SEPARATION & TOUCH

V-Cut Separation & Receiving Gates

10 MIN
Grid Setup Two 10x10 yard squares with defender dummy cones & passing servers
Technical Focus Fake toward dummy, hard plant, explode out, back-foot receive
  • How it works: Receiver checks 2 steps toward dummy cone, plants outside foot hard, and explodes backwards 3 steps into open pocket to receive server's pass.
  • Technique Metric: Player must receive with open 45° hips and take their first touch through a mini-gate using the back foot.
  • Coach Cue: "Sell the fake into their chest, explode back into daylight, and open your hips!"
DRILL 04 • MATCH APPLICATION

Small-Field 4v4 2-Touch Match

18 MIN
Grid Setup Standard 25x20 yard 4v4 pitch with 2 small goals
Game Constraints 2-Touch Max rule • Diamond shape • Anchor resets
  • Rule A (2-Touch Maximum): Touch 1 cushions into open space; Touch 2 passes or shoots. 3 touches = turnover to opposing team. Forces rapid scanning before receiving!
  • Rule B (Combo Bonuses): Any goal resulting from a 1-2 Wall Pass or a cross-field Anchor switch counts for 2 points!
  • Coach Cue: "Scan before the ball arrives! Touch the chalk! Drop to Anchor if jammed!"

KICKOFF ROUTINE
"LAY IT BACK!"

Striker 1-taps backwards to Anchor on kickoff whistle. Prevents panic-kicking straight into the opposing wall!

FIELD POSITIONING
"TOUCH THE CHALK!"

Wings sprint to the touchlines. Stretches defenders out of the middle, opening a 10-yard central highway for passes.

SEPARATION
"CHECK & PEEL!"

V-Cut movement: Take 2 hard steps toward defender, plant foot, and explode backward into open space to receive cleanly.

OPEN VISION
"BACK FOOT!"

Receive across your body with open hips so your first touch drives you forward toward goal instead of facing backwards.

QUICK PASSING
"ONE-TWO!"

Play a firm pass into your teammate's feet and immediately sprint past your defender for the 1-touch return pass!

ESCAPE VALVE
"RESET TO ANCHOR!"

Trapped on the touchline? Don't kick out of bounds! Drop it backwards to Anchor B1 to switch to the wide-open wing.

PASSING TEMPO
"TWO TOUCHES!"

1 touch to set into space, 1 touch to pass or shoot. Ball moves faster than defenders can run on a small field.

KICKOFF DEFENSE
"PINCER LOCK!"

Striker cuts the center back-pass, wings clamp the sidelines. Protect the middle and force them into a hurried mistake.

01
SEPARATION MECHANIC

The V-Cut Separation (Check & Peel)

  1. Sprint 2 hard steps directly toward your defender to pin their heels.
  2. Plant your outside foot firmly into the turf to slam on the brakes.
  3. Explode backwards 3 steps at a 45° diagonal into open green space.
  4. Call for the ball with hands open right as you hit the pocket!
Coach Cue: "Sell the fake into their chest, explode back into daylight!" Never stand still waiting for passes.
02
QUICK COMBINATION

The 1-2 Wall Pass (Give & Go)

  1. Deliver a firm, crisp inside-foot pass into your Striker or Wing's front foot.
  2. Immediately sprint at 100% into the open channel behind your defender.
  3. Partner plays a 1-touch angled cushion pass directly into your running stride.
  4. Take your shot or cross with your second touch before the recovery defender arrives.
Coach Cue: "Pass and SPRINT! Don't admire your pass — become the runner!"
03
RECEIVING TECHNIQUE

The Back-Foot Half-Turn (Open Vision)

  1. Before the ball arrives, scan over your shoulder to identify the open space.
  2. Open your hips to 45° so you can see both the passer and the opponent's goal.
  3. Let the ball roll across your body and cushion it with the inside of your far (back) foot.
  4. Your first touch now carries you forward in full stride — zero wasted steps!
Coach Cue: "Open the gate! Back foot forward!" Eliminates blind back-passes.
04
OFF-THE-BALL SPACING

The Blindside Peel ("No Free Eyes")

  1. Locate the defender marking you and take 2 steps directly behind their back shoulder.
  2. Force the defender to choose: look at the ball, or turn around to find you.
  3. The split second they turn their head toward the ball, break into the passing window.
  4. Receive with space and momentum while the defender is caught flat-footed.
Coach Cue: "Hide behind their shoulder! If they can see both of you, you're too easy to mark!"
05
CONGESTION ESCAPE

The Sole Pull & Anchor Reset

  1. When trapped near the sideline with 2 defenders closing in, plant non-kicking foot.
  2. Place sole on the ball, roll it backwards behind standing leg away from sideline.
  3. Pick up your head and play a clean negative pass back to Anchor B1.
  4. Anchor immediately switches the attack across to the wide-open opposite wing.
Coach Cue: "Don't kick it out! Roll and reset to Anchor!"
