B1 ANCHOR B2 L-WING B3 R-WING B4 STRIKER R1 R2 R3 R4
In Possession
"Make the Field BIG" (The Diamond): Both wings (B2 & B3) sprint to touch the touchlines. Striker (B4) stretches deep. This empties the center circle, giving your ball carrier 5–10 yards to turn and two passing angles!
SHAPE GEOMETRY

Why The Diamond (1-2-1) Works

A 2-2 "box" creates flat lines where defenders easily intercept passes. The Diamond gives every player two diagonal support triangles at all times.

  • Anchor (B1): Safety net. Stays behind the ball. Your most reliable defender.
  • Wings (B2/B3): Touch the chalk. Spread the opponents wide.
  • Target/Striker (B4): Pushes opponent defense back toward their goal.
PACE TRANSITION

Weaponizing Athleticism

Your kids have straight-line speed. Teach them "Fast Approach, Slow Arrival":

  • Sprint at 100% while the ball is traveling toward the opponent.
  • Chop feet 2 yards away into an athletic defensive stance.
  • Do NOT stab/lunge! Wait for the opponent to take a heavy touch, then step in with the body.

Chaos Grid: Ball Mastery
10:00
DRILL 01 • DECELERATION

Chaos Grid & Traffic Jam

10–12 MIN
Grid Setup 15x15 yard box, 1 ball per player
Technical Focus Sole pull-backs, V-cuts, Sudden stops
  • How it works: All kids dribble continuously inside the tight box, keeping heads up to avoid collisions.
  • Coach Callouts: "Brakes!" (sole-trap freeze), "Turn!" (180° pull-back), "V-Cut!" (push 45°).
  • Progression: 2 players become Tigers trying to kick balls out. Dribblers must arm-bar and shield!
DRILL 02 • PRESSURE ABSORPTION

1v1 Shielding Gauntlet

15 MIN
Grid Setup Two 10x12 yard channels with mini-goals
Technical Focus Belly button away, Arm bar, Turn & score
  • How it works: Coach serves ball into channel. Attacker receives with back to defender.
  • Incentive Rule: Shield ball for 3 seconds before shooting = goal counts for 2 points!
  • Coach Cue: "Put your side to their chest, get low like a rock, and feel where they are before turning."
DRILL 03 • SUPPORT ANGLES

3v1 Triangle Keep-Away Box

15 MIN
Grid Setup 10x10 yard square, 3 attackers vs 1 defender
Technical Focus Always give 2 passing options (Left & Right)
  • How it works: 3 players on perimeter keep possession away from 1 defender in middle.
  • Rule: If you don't have the ball, you MUST move to an open lane where you can see the passer's eyes.
  • Benchmark Target: 4 completed passes in a row!
DRILL 04 • MATCH APPLICATION

4v4 Conditioned Scrimmage

20 MIN
Grid Setup Standard 4v4 pitch with 2 small goals
Game Constraint 2-Pass Rule or "Big Field" touchline spread
  • Rule A (Pass Incentive): Goals only count if the team connected 2+ passes or routed through a wide wing.
  • Rule B (Anchor Alert): Opponent breakaway allows coach to shout "Anchor Alert!" to reset deep safety.

Sideline Verbal Cues

Stop joystick coaching ("Kick it!"). Tap any card for 1-second spatial audio reminders during matches.

IN POSSESSION
"BIG FIELD!"

Tells wings to sprint out and touch the touchlines. Spreads defenders and gives the ball carrier room to turn.

UNDER PRESSURE
"BELLY BUTTON AWAY!"

Reminds player to turn back to defender, get low like a rock, and shield the ball rather than panic-kicking.

DEFENSIVE CLOSING
"CHOP YOUR FEET!"

Slow down 2 steps before the attacker. Prevents athletic kids from diving in and getting bypassed on high speed.

SHAPE DISCIPLINE
"ANCHOR STAYS BACK!"

Prevents center back from chasing the ball into the opponent corner and leaving our goal wide open for breakaways.

OFF-THE-BALL SUPPORT
"FIND THE TRIANGLE!"

Reminds teammates to move left or right of the defender into open vision lanes so the passer has two exit routes.

RECEIVING QUALITY
"TAKE A TOUCH!"

Stops blind one-touch kicking. Settle the ball with sole or inside before scanning the pitch.

Close-Quarters Escape Moves

Biomechanics and micro-movement blueprints to turn athletic kids into tight-space escape artists.

01
ESCAPE MOVEMENT

The Sole Pull-Back (The 180° U-Turn)

  1. Plant non-kicking foot firmly alongside the ball.
  2. Place the bottom (cleats) of kicking foot on top of the ball.
  3. Roll the ball backward behind your standing leg.
  4. Swivel hips 180 degrees and explode with laces into open green space.
Coach Cue: "Step, Roll, Turn!" Execute the exact millisecond an opponent lunges in full sprint.
02
DIRECTIONAL SHIFT

The V-Cut / V-Pull

  1. Reach forward and pull the ball back with the sole toward your standing knee.
  2. Immediately push across at a 45-degree angle using the inside or outside of the same foot.
  3. Accelerate into the diagonal corridor you just opened.
Coach Cue: "Draw the letter V on the turf!"
03
SURVIVAL MECHANIC

The "Rock" Body Shield & Arm Bar

  1. Turn sideways or completely turn back to the defender.
  2. Bend knees and lower center of gravity (heavy like a boulder).
  3. Stick near arm out at waist height (framed, not pushing) to feel where the defender is.
  4. Keep the ball on the outside foot, farthest away from opponent reach.
Coach Cue: "Belly button away, wing out!" Remind them they do not have to kick immediately.
04
DEFENSIVE DISCIPLINE

Defending: Fast Approach, Slow Arrival

  1. Sprint full speed while the ball is traveling to the opponent.
  2. When 2 yards away, slam on the brakes and chop your feet into short stutter steps.
  3. Drop into a surfer stance (one foot forward, one back).
  4. Don't stab! Wait for their heavy touch or force them out of bounds.
Coach Cue: "Sprint... CHOP CHOP CHOP!"
